Glen Keane used to work at Walt Disney Studios, drawing and animating for films and cartoons, such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan and Pocahontas.
He says that to learn how to draw for these movies, it requires that you have to be a child yourself, and that it has taken him a lifetime to learn how to draw like one.
He speaks of his frustration, of wishing that the “flatness of the paper” would “just go away”, and that he could just “dive in” to his drawings.
Thankfully, there’s a new technology, which allows 3D art manipulation. It uses a set of goggles and two handheld instruments to draw in virtual reality—allowing Glen to draw life sized drawings and giving him a brand new canvas that he can almost literally “dive into”.
