At Woodford County High School in Kentucky, students are not allowed to wear anything but crewnecks. Stephanie Hughes of Versailles, Kentucky was sent home for exposed collarbones.
Woodford County High School in Kentucky has a strict dress code in place for all students. Recently, student Stephanie Hughes was sent home for exposing her collarbones. “Woodford County High School and the principal have been enforcing a dress code where girls can not show even their collar bones because it may distract their male class mates,” wrote Stacie Dunn on Facebook. “This is ridiculous! Parents are being called away from their important jobs and students are missing important class time because they are showing their collarbones! Something needs to change!” The school dress code has been quite controversial and earlier
the year Woodford student Maggie Sunseri released a short documentary about it. She comments: “I don’t think they understand that not all body types are the same,” she said. “And so while it might be easier for one person to find clothing that is in dress code, it’s a lot harder for me to find clothing.” Students also talked about double standards between males and females: “My boyfriend wore a pair of his soccer shorts to school. Soccer shorts come above the knee and it was completely fine for him,” she said. “But I wore the exact same pair and they told me
not to wear them.”
