It is not only our words, actions, or faces that reveal information about our personalities. Often seemingly unrelated facts from our life or random items in the outside world with which we come in contact communicate what is inside us. We might not even realize a connection between the world and our emotional states. Below is the list of different cases that trace precisely that: how different objects to which we are not even emotionally attached influence our mood.

1.Music Influences Our Decisions

Psychologists say that if you are driving and hear dynamic music, you will speed up. And it is of no importance that you are listening to this music only half-heartedly or dislike it. Whatever you feel about it, you will drive quicker than before it started influenced by its rhythm. It is also true that sad music makes us feel sad, while merry music cheers us up. Our mood depends on the type of music we listen to, rather than the other way round: we do not choose music to fit our emotional state.

2.Spending Money Makes Us Happier

Everyone knows about shopping therapy. We are constantly advised to visit shops rather than doctors, if we feel down. But psychologists also say that it is not how much money we spend but rather on whom we spend it that influences our mood. They discovered that we feel happier, if we spend money not on ourselves but on others. This might defy common sense, because our selfish gene dictates that we take care of ourselves first. But we also have primordial instincts to care for others. Hence, we feel happy spending on those we love.

3.Money Gives More Pleasure If Spent On Entertainment

This again is counterintuitive. We have repeatedly been told that it is better to invest money into lasting objects rather than on fleeting, short pleasures. Buying a house or at least a suit will give you more pleasure than spending money in order to throw a party. And yet, no joy from the purchase of a house will last long enough. We inevitably become used to new objects; our euphoric feelings fade quickly. Experience, however, stays with us for good and often defines who we are.

4.Religious Practices Make Us Less Stressful

For non-believers any statement that prayer cures sounds as usual fanatical brainwashing. Yet numerous studies of religious practices have indeed shown that people who regularly pray and meditate get stressed to a lesser degree than people who do not practice religion.

5.Depression Is Contagious

As it happens with flu or chickenpox, you can become infected with depression. And again as with these diseases, you get bad mood from those around you. If you are surrounded with sulky, morose people, you will soon become like them, too, regardless of what is going on in your life at the moment.

6.It Does Not Matter How Much You Sleep

Our brain is so constructed that it does not distinguish well between the real world and the fantasy world. If you make an effort, you can convince it in nearly everything. For example, if you had only five hours of sleep and feel sleepy, you may argue our brain into thinking that you had enough sleep and feel fresh. Repeat to yourself that you slept well and you will surely feel energized.

7.You Brain Makes Up Your Past

Our brain is not particularly good at taking impressions of the external reality and what happens to us. Therefore, when we indulge in reminisces, we do not really recollect true facts from the past. Rather, we bring to mind our feelings about these facts from the past. And every time we remember these facts, our brain changes them. So, every time we mentally return to a particular event, we remember it differently. Ironically, the more often we recollect something the lesser resemblance it has to reality.
